how can
short breaks help?

Short Breaks Carers offer planned support, usually in their own homes. Following a full assessment, during which it is agree what the Short Breaks Carer can offer, a child is linked and gradual introductions begin. Following initial introductions the carer and family sit down with their social workers and decide whether or not to proceed with the placement. This encourages families and carers at the earliest possible stage to be honest about how they feel the placement will work for them or not. A placement agreement outlining the frequency of contact and care needs is then agreed. Carers, young people and their families are all involved in this process in order to ensure that arrangements made work well for all involved.
